Extended postnatal check-up programme

Extended postnatal check-up programme is designed for women who wish to have a thorough assessment of their health following pregnancy and childbirth, to monitor their body’s recovery and to identify any potential postnatal changes in good time. The programme includes gynaecological, breast and laboratory examinations, thereby ensuring extended care for a woman’s health after childbirth.

The programme is recommended 6–8 weeks after childbirth, when it is important to assess the recovery of the uterus, hormonal changes, blood parameters, the condition of the breasts and general well-being.

The programme is coordinated by Živilė Sabonytė-Balšaitienė, MD, PhD, an obstetrician-gynaecologist and comprises:

Consultations

Laboratory tests

  • Complete blood count – helps to assess the body’s general condition and detect inflammation, anaemia or other blood abnormalities;
  • Vitamin D – important for bone strength, immunity, hormonal balance and general well-being;
  • Ferritin – indicates the body’s iron stores. A reduced level may indicate iron deficiency following childbirth;
  • Glucose tolerance test – carried out in cases of gestational diabetes or elevated glucose levels during pregnancy.

Gynaecological examinations

Breast examination

Who is this programme for?

  • 6–8 weeks after giving birth;
  • Following pregnancy complications or a caesarean section;
  • If you are experiencing tiredness, weakness or a lack of energy;
  • If you are experiencing breast pain, tenderness or discomfort;
  • Following gestational diabetes or if there is a risk of metabolic disorders;
  • If you wish to undergo a extended preventive health check-up after childbirth.

Why choose the extended programme?

After giving birth, a woman’s body undergoes significant hormonal, physical and emotional changes. A extended check-up allows for the timely detection of potential health issues, ensures a smooth recovery and helps you look after your wellbeing as you enter this new stage of life.
