Basic breast screening programme

Basic breast screening programme is designed for women who wish to have a preventive assessment of their breast health and hormonal balance, and to detect any potential changes in breast tissue at an early stage. The programme comprises consultations with a breast specialist, hormonal laboratory tests and a comprehensive ultrasound examination of the breasts and regional lymph nodes.

The programme is coordinated by breast surgeon prof. habil. dr Valerijus Ostapenko and comprises:

Consultations:

  • Initial consultation with a breast specialist;
  • Follow-up consultation to discuss test results and recommendations.

Laboratory tests:

  • Progesterone – important for hormonal balance and regulation of the menstrual cycle;
  • Prolactin – elevated levels may be associated with breast tenderness or nipple discharge;
  • FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) – helps to assess ovarian function and hormonal changes;
  • LH (luteinising hormone) – plays a role in the functioning of the reproductive system and hormone regulation;
  • TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) – the main indicator of thyroid function, which may influence breast health and hormonal balance.

Examinations:

  • Breast examination;
  • Ultrasound scan of the breasts and regional lymph nodes.
