Consultation for pregnant women

Consultation for pregnant women is a one-to-one appointment with an obstetrician-gynaecologist, during which the progress of the pregnancy and the health of the expectant mother and the foetus are assessed, and all the key issues relating to pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period are discussed. During the consultation, a personalised pregnancy care and birth plan is drawn up, taking into account the woman’s state of health, the progress of the pregnancy, previous births and her personal expectations. The aim of the consultation is to provide the expectant mother with clear information, to help her prepare for childbirth and to make informed decisions regarding her pregnancy and antenatal care.

How long does a doctor’s consultation last?

A standard doctor’s consultation lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. This allows for a thorough assessment of the progress of the pregnancy, a discussion of test results, answers to any questions you may have, and the joint development of a personalised birth plan.

How should I prepare for a doctor’s consultation?

  • Have your antenatal card and other medical documents to hand;
  • Bring the results of any blood, urine, ultrasound and other tests you have had;
  • Make a list of any medicines and dietary supplements you are taking;
  • Write down any questions you have about pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period.

What should I expect during the consultation?

During the consultation, the obstetrician-gynaecologist will:

  • Assess the progress of the pregnancy and the expectant mother’s state of health;
  • Discuss the results of any tests carried out and, if necessary, recommend further tests;
  • Assess any potential risk factors relating to pregnancy and childbirth;
  • Answer any questions you may have about pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period;
  • Help draw up a personalised birth plan, discussing pain relief options, the progress of labour, your partner’s involvement, newborn care and other important aspects;
  • Provide recommendations on further antenatal care and monitoring.
